Biden White House angry Fox News reporter is exposing severity of border crisis with ‘alarmist’ reporting

The Blaze

The White House is reportedly upset that Fox News reporter Bill Melugin is shedding light on the intensifying border crisis.

Melugin joined Fox News as a national correspondent last April after working as an investigative reporter in Los Angeles.

His work has mainly focused on showing Americans the unfortunate extent of the border crisis, and the Biden administration is upset that his viral videos and Fox News’ coverage of the crisis are laying bare the severity of the problem.

According to Politico’s West Wing Playbook, administration officials have expressed “increasing frustration” with Melugin’s reporting.

Their problem? They believe Melugin’s work has “an alarmist quality to it, designed to feed political narratives rather than illuminate the actual issues feeding the migrant flow,” according to the West Wing Playbook.

More from the West Wing Playbook:

One administration official who used to work on immigration issues told West Wing Playbook that the Biden team has complained about the lack of nuance in the network’s coverage of the topic, which focuses more on the number of migrants rather than explaining the root causes of the situation. Another administration official believes that the conservative network amps up border coverage whenever there are bad headlines for conservatives in the news.

Ironically, Politico claimed Melugin’s reporting is “stoking fears about caravans of immigrants” — despite literal caravans of migrants coming to the U.S. and more than 2 million migrants having entered the U.S. in fiscal year 2022 — while at the same time observing that Melugin engages in real journalism through “on-the-ground reporting.”

The White House has singled out Fox News twice over the past week, claiming the network was tipped off about migrant trips.

Last week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed Fox News was alerted that migrants were arriving outside the Naval Observatory, the official residence of Vice President Kamala Harris.

“The fact that Fox News — and not the Department of Homeland Security, the city, or local NGOs — were alerted about a plan to leave migrants, including children, on the side of a busy D.C. street makes clear that this is just a cruel, premeditated political stunt,” she said.
